“Wayward Angel” Factoids
“Wayward Angel” was written, produced, directed, and edited by Lorraine Portman. Portman was also the Director of Photography and Camera Operator.
There was no sound equipment available for the shoot, so Lorraine constructed a story that she felt would work without any dialogue.
It was shot on location in Havana, Florida.
There was a 2 night shooting schedule – both nights 12 hours.
A production crew of 10 – all students.
“Wayward Angel” was shot on 35 mm short ends of Kodak film, on a camera on loan from Panavision in Orlando. Lorraine wanted to work with Kodak’s 800 speed film but there weren’t enough short ends in the 800 speed, so the film is shot in 500 and 800. The shoot was her final project in an Advanced Cinematography class.
The cast and crew all volunteered their time.
The music is by Laura Pooley. Lorraine and Laura met when both were actors in another student film. Laura moved to Atlanta late in 1999 and has since been killed in a horse riding accident.
Kelly Smith has since moved to LA and has appeared in “The Practice”, “Boston Public” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as well as other stage and film roles. Her “Buffy” role involved her being attacked by a vampire in an alley and saved by Buffy.
John Steven Rocha has also moved to LA and is a working actor.
Post production was completed in Jacksonville over ten years after principle photography.
